Derby reject offer for Barnes

Derby manager Paul Jewell has today confirmed that the club have turned down a verbal offer from Newcastle for Giles Barnes.

The highly-rated 19-year-old has previously been linked with Tottenham but Jewell revealed the Magpies are the only side who have made a bid for the midfielder.

He said: "They (Newcastle) did come up with an offer yesterday, a verbal offer, but it was nowhere near our valuation."
