Dion Dublin set to retire

Norwich striker Dion Dublin has confirmed he will retire at the end of the season.

The 38-year-old, who decided to stay for another year last summer, has so far made 725 appearances and scored 231 goals in a career spanning two decades.

Dublin won four England caps and played for, among others, Manchester United, Aston Villa and Celtic.

He told the Eastern Daily Press: “My body needs a rest. It has been a long time. What people don’t realise is it takes me 40, 45 minutes to get myself ready for training and then start the warm-ups.

“Even on match days it is the same thing. The physios are doing their best to get me going, they are giving me all the things I need to wear and to use and it is just physically hard to do it.

“Mentally I am fine, physically it takes longer. It is important to go out fit and healthy – I don’t want the game to retire me. I want to retire when I am ready to retire.

“Touch wood, things have been okay and I feel fit and I want to go out of the game walking and not another way.”
