David O'Leary has declined an opportunity to be interviewed for the vacant Republic of Ireland manager's job.

The former Leeds and Aston Villa boss has confirmed that he will not be seeking the position.

The selection panel of Don Givens, Ray Houghton and Don Howe is understood to be in the process of drawing up a shortlist for the FAI board of management.

Terry Venables remains the favourite to take over the job.
