Keegan-mania delays FA Cup replay kick-off

Kevin Keegan’s imminent return as Newcastle manager had an instant effect as kick-off in tonight’s FA Cup third-round replay with Stoke was delayed by 15 minutes.

Security chiefs at St James’ Park took the decision to put the start back to 8pm as thousands of fans reacted to news of Keegan’s appointment by flocking to the stadium to buy tickets for the game.

Within hours, a huge queue snaked around St James’ as supporters headed for Gallowgate determined to share in another big night in the club’s recent history.

The atmosphere reached fever pitch amid unconfirmed rumours that Keegan himself was heading back to the city, although club officials were quick to play down talk of his presentation on the pitch.
