Gretna’s Clydesdale Bank Premier League clash with St Mirren at Fir Park on Wednesday has been postponed following the death of Motherwell midfielder Phil O’Donnell yesterday.

O’Donnell, 35, died shortly after suffering a suspected seizure during the match against Dundee United at the stadium.

Gretna have been tenants at Fir Park this season while they wait for their Raydale Park ground to be brought up to SPL standards.

Motherwell’s match at Hibernian on Wednesday was postponed last night and today the Scottish Premier League chairman Lex Gold announced: “Clearly Fir Park has become a place of homage for many fans of Phil.

“Being sensitive to this, Gretna and St Mirren have agreed with the SPL that the game on Wednesday should be postponed.

“The four other games will proceed as planned.”
