Newcastle midfielder Joey Barton will not play in his side’s Premier League clash at Chelsea tomorrow after being remanded in custody until January 3, charged with common assault and affray.

England striker Michael Owen could return from his thigh injury, most likely as a substitute, after travelling to Wigan on St Stephen's Day, but not making the 16.

Claudio Cacapa and Nicky Butt may figure after being rested in midweek.
