Arsene Wenger hailed a mixture of brilliance and resilience from his Arsenal side as they survived a second-half battering from Aston Villa to maintain their unbeaten record in the Premier League.

The league leaders were at their free-flowing best in the opening 45 minutes when goals from Mathieu Flamini and Emmanuel Adebayor superseded an early strike from Villa midfielder Craig Gardner.
