Neville out of Kiev clash

Manchester United captain Gary Neville has been ruled out of tomorrow’s Champions League encounter with Dynamo Kiev after suffering a setback in his recovery from a calf injury.

Neville has not featured for United since breaking an ankle in March but did make his long awaited reappearance in a reserve team game against Stockport last Thursday.

It was expected the England international would feature against Kiev as United chase the victory required to secure a place in the knock-out stage.

However, Sir Alex Ferguson has revealed the 32-year-old is now back on the treatment table.

“Unfortunately, Gary has a little calf strain,” said the United boss.

“It’s really bad news for the boy. I don’t think it is too bad but it is one he could have done without.

“He needs to get his season on the road and this is a setback.”

Ferguson revealed Neville suffered the injury in training on Sunday and with England coach Steve McClaren due to name his squad for this month’s friendly against Austria and the following Euro 2008 qualifier with Croatia on Friday lunchtime, it now appears certain Neville will miss out there too.
