Shamrock Rovers see hopes recede
Shamrock Rovers 0 Sligo Rovers 0
A bad miss by Ger Rowe and a goal-line clearance from Gavin Peers all but ended Shamrock Rovers' slim hopes of making Europe next season.
Pat Scully's side remain in fifth place, five points behind third - and an InterToto Cup - spot, with just two games to play.
Rowe blew the best chance of the first half after just two minutes when shooting wide with the goal gaping after Sligo 'keeper Richard Brush had dropped a cross at his feet.
Sligo were the better side before the break with both Matt Gordon and Adam Hughes heading over from good crosses in from the right by Rafael Cretaro and Fahrudin Kuduzovic respectively.
Shamrock dominated the second half, though, but chances were at a premium.
The closest they came to getting the win they needed came on 65 minutes when Robbie Clarke's cross picked out David Cassidy in the box, but his bicycle kick was cleared off the line by well-place Sligo defender Peers.
