Hennessey ruled out

Wales goalkeeper Wayne Hennessey has been ruled out of the Euro 2008 qualifiers against Cyprus and San Marino with injury.

The Wolves stopper injured his hip against Coventry on Saturday and was taken to hospital for an x-ray.

Wolves confirmed there was no serious damage to the 20-year-old but revealed he will remain in the Black Country for treatment rather than join John Toshack’s squad.

The Coca-Cola Championship club hope Hennessey will be fit in time to resume first-team action after the international break.

Wolves physio Barry Holmes told the club website, wolves.co.uk: “We took Wayne off to hospital as a precaution and were pleased to be told that nothing was broken.

“His hip and pelvis is very sore though, so he hasn’t joined up with Wales.

“We are hoping it settles down quickly and that during the two-week break we can get him fit for the Charlton game.”

Hennessey’s absence leaves Toshack with Tranmere’s Danny Coyne and Derby reserve Lewis Price as his available goalkeepers.
