Longford Town 3 Limerick 37 1

Jamie Duffy put the gloss on Longford’s passage through to the FAI Ford Cup semi-finals with a last minute goal tonight - but in truth, Alan Mathews’s side made hard work of despatching First Division Limerick.

It took Town until the 72nd minute to break the deadlock.

Having lobbed narrowly over just a minute earlier, Dessie Baker made no mistake as he raced onto a Mark Rutherford through-ball to clip the ball over the advancing Jimmy Fyfe.

Rutherford and Baker then set up Dave Mooney to volley home the second 10 minutes later.

Limerick fought back with substitute John Tierney slotting home an 85th minute penalty after Pat Sullivan pulled down Robbie Kelleher.

But Duffy struck for Town’s third goal in the 90th minute when slotting home after working a long-range one-two with Sullivan.
