Rooney returns for United

Wayne Rooney returned to Manchester United’s starting line-up for the first time since the opening day of the season as Alex Ferguson’s men tackled Sporting Lisbon to kick off their latest Champions League quest.

The England star has been pestering Ferguson for a return to action for almost a fortnight but only now has the Red Devils chief decided Rooney has recovered from the fractured foot he sustained against Reading.
