Cork came from 2-0 down to earn a rousing win to keep their hopes of making Europe very much on track.

In-form Longford belied the absence of their topscoring striker Dave Mooney to stun Cork by taking a 2-0 lead within ten minutes.

Midfielder Colm James opened the scoring on six minutes when connecting with Gary Deegan's cross to fire in a shot.

City keeper Mark McNulty parried the effort but James followed up to shoot home.

A blunder by McNulty then gifted Longford their second goal four minutes later when he flapped at Sean Prunty's 30 yard drive to merely help the ball into his own net.

Cork hit back on 18 minutes, though, when Denis Behan controlled Billy Woods' cross to shoot to the net.

Behan then headed against the bar before levelling on 38 minutes.

Behan was then denied his hat-trick before Leon McSweeney won it for Cork on 65 minutes, firing home Joe Gamble's cross to keep Cork fourth in the table.
