Drogheda drop points at Galway
Galway United 1 Drogheda United 1
John Lester scored a stunning free-kick to give Galway a share of the spoils at Terryland Park as Drogheda stretched their lead at the top to eight points.
Drogheda recovered from a slow start to have the better of the first half.
Dan Connor in the Drogheda goal saved a John Fitzgerlad header from Alan Murphy's free-kick on 12 minutes before the visitors came into it.
Shane Robinson brought the best out of Galway keeper Gary Rogers with a header from Simon Webb's cross while Guy Bates could also find no way past Rogers later in the half.
But Bates did put Drogheda in front on 64 minutes from the best move of the match. Eamon Zayed played the final ball and Bates shot past Rogers.
Galway deserved something from a good game and got it six minutes later.
Jason Gavin was penalised for a foul on Stephen O'Flynn and Lester's 30-yard free beat Connor.
