Shamrock seek to close gap

Shamrock Rovers will look to close the gap at the top of the table as they take on Longford Town in tonight's eircom League of Ireland Premier Division clash at Tolka Park, kick-off 8.00pm.

Rovers have several injury worries ahead of tonight's game, although Barry Ferguson is back after a one-match suspension.

Long-term casualty Aidan Price remains sidelined and six other players are receiving treatment.

Ger O'Brien, John Martin, Eric McGill, Tadhg Purcell, Padraig Amond and Ger Rowe are all doubtful, but Hoops boss Pat Scully remains optimistic.

"It's not as bad as it might seem," said Scully.

"Eric McGill missed last week's game due to a hip problem but might make it this week. Tadhg Purcell picked up a hip injury against UCD and hasn't trained.

"Ger O'Brien is looking extremely doubtful with a back injury. The same goes for John Martin.

"Padraig Amond still has a problem with his neck, while Ger Rowe has a slight back injury, but the medical team are very confident most of them will be available."

Longford are on a winning streak in the league having won four of their last five games but will have to prepare for this one without Ian Ryan or Jamie Duffy who are on loan from tonight’s opponents.

Otherwise boss Alan Mathews has a full squad to choose from.
