Crowe puts ten-man Bohs in League Cup final
Bohemians 1 Shamrock Rovers 0
Glen Crowe eased the pressure on boss Sean Connor with a second-half winner to put Bohemians into the eircom League of Ireland Cup final against either Derry City or UCD next month.
Despite playing with ten men from the 16th minute following Mark Rossiter's sending off, Bohs were the better side and finally broke the deadlock in this fiercely contested Dublin derby on 59 minutes.
John Paul Kelly put over a well-flighted corner and Crowe rose to power a header to the net for his ninth goal of the season.
Midfielder Rossiter, who was also sent off in Longford last Saturday having been on the pitch just eight minutes, was booked after nine minutes for following through on Rovers' defender Barry Ferguson.
But his second yellow card from referee Damien Hancock seven minutes later was harsh as he accidentally caught David Cassidy.
Rovers had the clearest opening of the first half on 40 minutes.
Andy Myler's clever pass put Cassidy through on goal down the inside right channel, requiring a brave save at his feet from keeper Brian Murphy.
Chasing the game, Rovers pressed late on but could find no way past Murphy who saved well from Tadhg Purcell before Rovers' keeper Barry Murphy came up at the death to head over the Bohs' bar.
