Injury problems hit Rovers and Derry City

Shamrock Rovers will move within three points of leaders Drogheda United in the eircom League of Ireland Premier Division if they beat Derry City at Tolka Park tonight, kick-off 8pm.

Long-term casualties Paul Shiels and Aidan Price remain sidelined for Rovers, as does reserve goalkeeper Stephen O'Brien.

Dave Tyrrell (bruised toe) and John Martin (hamstring) will both miss the Derry City game.

“Dave's injury is not as bad as we feared,” said Hoops boss, Pat Scully.

“At first we thought that he'd broken a toe, but it's only badly bruised. He's in a lot of pain so it's a question of getting it to an acceptable level so he can play.

“John Martin has a slight hamstring problem, so we're leaving him out of the Derry game as a precaution. Our training's a lot harder than he's used to so we have to be careful.

“Otherwise we have a few on the doubtful list,” he added. “David Cassidy has a slight hip problem that has meant he hasn't been able to play full games recently.

“Ger O'Brien has a back problem, but he should be okay. Paul Shiels is making progress and might be back for Bohs on Tuesday and should be okay for Waterford.”

The Candystripes have injury concerns of their own as Killian Brennan, Mark Farren, Barry Molloy and Kevin McHugh are all doubts.
