Paddy Kenny extends Sheffield contract

Sheffield United goalkeeper Paddy Kenny has signed a new contract keeping him at Bramall Lane until 2010.

The 29-year-old Republic of Ireland international follows Nick Montgomery, Alan Quinn and Derek Geary in committing to the Blades, despite their relegation to the Coca-Cola Championship.

Kenny has been linked with a move away from the club this summer, but boss Bryan Robson is delighted he has opted to stay and aid their bid to make an immediate return to the top flight.

Robson told the club’s official website, www.sufc.co.uk: “After looking after Monty (Montgomery), who has proved his worth on the pitch, particularly last season, I’m now delighted Paddy has followed suit and is settled.

“He is happy to be playing with Sheffield United and I believe I’ve got probably the best goalkeeper in the division.

“There was a lot of paper talk about Premier League clubs sniffing around but he is first and foremost our player.”
