Beckham watches Galaxy end losing streak

David Beckham was a spectator as the Los Angeles Galaxy opened their SuperLiga group campaign with a much-needed 2-1 victory over Mexico’s CF Pachuca at the Home Depot Center in Carson, California.

The former Manchester United and Real Madrid star was ruled out by the ankle injury that limited his Galaxy debut to a 78th minute substitute appearance against Chelsea on Saturday night.

Beckham watched from an executive box as the Galaxy scored for the first time since his arrival through striker Alan Gordon in the 50th minute and again through captain Landon Donovan, handing them a first victory since July 4 to halt a three-game losing streak.

England midfielder Beckham has continued to receive treatment on his left ankle following the Chelsea game and missed training on Monday.

Galaxy’s next game is another SuperLiga encounter against Chivas Guadalajara at the Los Angeles Coliseum on Saturday, with head coach Frank Yallop more confident Beckham will be fit to play some part in that match.
