Paul Scholes is returning home from Manchester United’s tour of Asia.

The midfielder had a scan in Macau yesterday and, although United have yet to confirm the precise nature of the injury, he will now make his way back to England five days early.

Meanwhile, Alex Ferguson handed a debut to Nani for the third game of Manchester United’s tour with Shenzhen FC in Macau.

The Portuguese winger, a summer arrival from Sporting Lisbon, was passed fit to play against the Chinese side after recovering from an ankle injury.

But there was no place in the squad for another of one United’s new signings, Owen Hargreaves, who was forced out with injury. Cristiano Ronaldo, Wayne Rooney and Ryan Giggs were all included in a strong starting XI.
