Rovers' winning ways raise them to third
Shamrock Rovers 2 UCD 0
Ger Rowe and Tadhg Purcell made it 16 goals between them this season as Shamrock Rovers stretched their unbeaten league run to eight games to move to within two points of second-placed St Patrick's Athletic.
Rowe had a shot cleared off the line by Alan Mahon as Rovers shaded a competitive first half.
The breakthrough came on 53 minutes when Rowe was left unmarked to head home David Tyrrell's corner for his sixth of the league campaign.
Further poor defending cost UCD a second goal on 70 minutes when Purcell rose unchallenged to head to the net from Ger O'Brien's cross - his tenth of the season.
The win sets up a mouth-watering Dublin derby with St Pat's back at Tolka Park next Monday night.
