Fulham defender Zat Knight has ended the uncertainty surrounding his future at Craven Cottage by signing a two-year contract extension.

Fulham defender Zat Knight has ended the uncertainty surrounding his future at Craven Cottage by signing a two-year contract extension.

The 27-year-old was tipped to leave fozllowing a frustrating season where he was ruled out for a part of the campaign with a freak jaw injury after “horseplay” with his brother.

He also apologised after a clash with fans following defeat to Tottenham in the FA Cup and was linked with Sunderland and Birmingham, but has now committed himself to Fulham until 2010.

After signing midfielder Steven Davis from Aston Villa, Lawrie Sanchez’s squad is starting to take shape after taking charge in April.

Sanchez said: “Since I arrived at the club I’ve been impressed with Zat’s commitment and attitude both on and off the pitch.

“He has a good understanding of the game which is reflected in his positional play.”

Sanchez is looking to bolster his attack and it is understood Diomansy Kamara was ready to sign, although an agreement with West Brom has not been announced.

Leeds striker David Healy has also been widely tipped to be reunited with the coach he played under for Northern Ireland.

While recruiting a goalscorer is Sanchez’s priority, he wants Knight to be part of a tighter defence if Fulham are to avoid another relegation battle.

Sanchez added: “It’s no secret that we conceded too many goals last season and that’s something I’m determined to change.

“With the right back four, that will happen, and I’m sure that Zat will have a big part to play in my plans, so I’m delighted that he has committed his future to Fulham.”
