Two men have been arrested as part of a police probe into alleged financial irregularities at Derby County.

The men, aged 51 and 46, have been questioned about a takeover of the newly-promoted club which took place in October 2003.

A police spokeswoman confirmed the men were arrested in the past few weeks and released on bail while further inquiries are carried out.

An investigation into the handling of the club began last year following suggestions of financial impropriety surrounding the takeover.

The current administration at Pride Park, headed by chairman Peter Gadsby, is not connected to the investigation.

A spokesman for the club said: “it is not something we are commenting on. It is part of a past regime at the club.”
