O'Halloran sees red at Flancare Park

Derry midfielder Greg O'Halloran was sent off late on as Longford put a bad week behind them to frustrate the Candystripes at Flancare Park today.

O'Halloran was dismissed for a second booking on 79 minutes after a challenge on Town defender Patrick Sullivan.

Though Longford had much of the possession in the first half, it was Derry who should have been 2-0 up at the interval.

Both chances fell to striker Kevin McHugh, the first on three minutes when one-on-one with keeper Mick Dempsey, but he shot wide.

Then, just before the break, Sullivan got back well to make a last-ditch tackle to take the ball off the toe of McHugh as he was about to shoot.

Ruaidhrí Higgins had a real chance a minute from the end, but his header from Killian Brennan's cross was straight at Dempsey as Longford held out for a morale-boosting win.
