Rangers pair handed Scotland call
Scotland boss Alex McLeish has called up uncapped Rangers pair Alan Hutton and Charlie Adam for the friendly against Austria and must-win Euro 2008 qualifier against the Faroe Islands.
Both are named in the senior squad for the first time, as is Derby defender Jay McEveley who is rewarded for his performances with Billy Davies’ Coca-Cola Championship promotion hopefuls.
McLeish has left out regulars Christian Dailly, Jackie McNamara, Scott Severin and Neil Alexander, while West Ham’s Nigel Quashie and Reading’s Graeme Murty are ruled out by injury.
Adam has been in scintillating form in the Rangers midfield, establishing himself as a free-kick specialist and a frequent goalscorer, while right-back Hutton has made the position his own at Ibrox this season.
Scotland face Austria in Vienna on May 30, in a friendly match which serves as preparation for the trip to take on the Faroes in Toftir on June 6.
On their past two visits to Toftir, the minnows have stunned the Scots by claiming draws.
Scotland are alongside France and Ukraine on 12 points at the top of Group B in qualifying for next year’s finals, but have played one more match.
