Drogheda through to Setanta Cup Final

St.Patrick's Athletic 0 Drogheda United 1 (after 30 minutes extra time)

Holders Drogheda United are through to the Setanta Cup final against either Linfield or Cork City on May 12 when a dramatic Eamon Zayed strike in the 112th minute gave the County Louth club victory over St.Patrick's Athletic after extra time at Richmond Park tonight.

The nearest either team came to breaking the deadlock in the opening 90 minutes was when St.Pat's striker Mark Quigley volleyed an effort in a crowded goalmouth onto the underside of the crossbar and away to safety on 32 minutes.

Then the agony of extra time, with Zayed emerging the hero when shooting left-footed home from 15 yards after a Stuart Byrne free was nodded on by substitute Tony Grant.

There was no more relieved man than Byrne who had fired a penalty against the upright in added of time of normal time to send the match into 30 minutes of extra time with Drogheda eventually emerging victorious thanks to match-winner Zayed.
