Maradona back in hospital
Former Argentina captain Diego Maradona has been re-admitted to hospital in Buenos Aires, according to reports.
The 46-year-old had been discharged on Wednesday after undergoing two weeks of treatment for an over-indulgence in smoking, drinking and eating.
Maradona had been expected to travel to the La Prairie clinic in Switzerland to continue his treatment, according to his personal doctor, Alfredo Cahe.
But reports in the Argentinian media say Maradona has now been rushed back into intensive care at the Ezeiza hospital after suffering a relapse.
Maradona was rushed to the Mother Teresa of Calcutta hospital in Ezeiza, near Buenos Aires, at 4.45am on Friday morning suffering from severe abdominal pain.
Two days earlier he had left the capital’s Guemes hospital after signing a document saying he was responsible for his own health.
“Yesterday night, Diego suffered very strong pains in the abdomen. I did not want to take any risks so the doctors decided to take him to a public hospital here (in Ezeiza),” Cahe said.
“He is stable and conscious. Maybe this is a recurrence of his hepatic problem,” he added.
According to reports, Maradona’s condition is not life-threatening.
Cahe will hold a press conference later on Friday.
