Council approves Watford ground plan

Watford’s proposal to redevelop their Vicarage Road ground, providing low-cost housing as part of a £32.5m (€48m) scheme, has been granted planning permission by the local council.

Watford Leisure plc have announced the plans have been approved by Watford Borough Council, allowing the club and housing association Origin Group to start work on the first phase of the scheme in early summer.

The club have been given the go-ahead to begin work on a housing development at the rear of the Rookery end of the ground.

Further proposed development of the north-west corner of the ground could result in low-cost housing for 125 workers at the neighbouring Watford General Hospital, and 39 shared ownership properties.
