Givens: Ward will learn from McCarthy

The manager of the Ireland Under-21 side has backed former national boss Mick McCarthy to have a big influence on striker Stephen Ward.

Don Givens can call on the Wolves striker when his side face Holland in Venlo tonight but the coach admits that he believes the 21-year-old was close to earning a call-up to Steve Staunton’s senior squad.
