Stephen Ireland insists the Republic of Ireland are determined to rise to the occasion after being hurt by Roy Keane’s criticisms.

Manager Steve Staunton yesterday effectively swerved the issue when pressed on the subject of Keane’s barbs in which he lambasted the Football Association of Ireland, Staunton himself and the players.
