UEFA yet to receive Spurs match switch request

UEFA have yet to receive a request to switch next month’s UEFA Cup match between Tottenham and Sevilla at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan stadium to an alternative date.

The Seville town council announced yesterday they would be petitioning for European football’s governing body to move the quarter-final first leg from its scheduled April 5 date because it clashed with a major religious festival in the city.

The match is due to be played on the Thursday before Easter when ’Jueves Santo’ (Maundy Thursday) is celebrated.

Holy Week in Seville is famous for its floats and processions, with huge crowds expected to attend.

UEFA are able to change the dates of matches in special circumstances, but confirmed today they have not yet been asked about moving the match.

“For the time being, we have not received anything,” a spokesman told said. “In the competition regulations, it says that in exceptional circumstances the UEFA administration can change the date or the kick-off time sometimes.

“But it is something we must look at case by case and, since we have not received a request yet, I cannot say how they will process it.

“The best thing is to first see the request, to see what they are asking for, the exact dates they want, and then we will be able to tell exactly when a decision will be taken by the UEFA football administration department.”
