Wembley opening an all-ticket affair

Football Association chiefs are warning that only people with tickets will be allowed inside Wembley for the first public event at the new stadium on Saturday.

Around 60,000 visitors are expected to turn up for what is the first test event for the grand opening.

FA director of communications Adrian Bevington said: “The tickets have already been allocated by Brent council to residents of Brent and anyone turning up without a ticket will be disappointed.”

Although the stadium is completed, not all the facilities are fully up and running, and retail outlets in the stadium will only accept cash on Saturday.

The FA are also calling on the visitors to use public transport rather than try to drive to the stadium.

On the pitch, there will be a coaching session by England women’s international Rachel Yankey involving youngsters from a local school.

That will be followed by a number of short matches involving celebrity teams.
