Rangers clinch deal for St Mirren defender
Rangers have signed Scotland B defender Kirk Broadfoot to a pre-contract agreement which will see him move to Ibrox this summer.
The 22-year-old has been an impressive performer for St Mirren in the Bank of Scotland Premier League this season.
Broadfoot can play in the centre of defence or on the left, and will join Rangers when his contract with the Buddies expires.
Rangers manager Walter Smith said: “I am pleased Kirk has agreed to join us.”
Smith told www.rangers.co.uk: “He has played very well for St Mirren in the SPL this season, gaining vital experience and will be a welcome addition to our squad.”
Broadfoot, who had also been linked with a move to Celtic, was quick to commit himself to Rangers after the club revealed their interest.
Because of his young age, St Mirren will be entitled to some compensation for the player.
Broadfoot will become the latest defensive addition to the Rangers squad, after Andy Webster, David Weir and Ugo Ehiogu were brought to the club in January.
And he will join Falkirk’s Alan Gow, another to have signed a pre-contract agreement with Rangers, at the club next season.
