The number 12 jersey has been officially retired by Cork City FC and presented to the club’s fans today.

Chairman Brian Lennox told CorkCityFC.ie that the club felt it was important to recognise the role of supporters.

"As chairman, I am delighted to recognise the crucial part all of our fans have to play in the future of the club," he said.

"They are the lifeblood of this club and have given us tremendous backing over the years.

"Retiring the number 12 jersey is a symbolic gesture on behalf of the club and I hope that this will reiterate to the fans just how much their contribution to this club is valued by everyone at the club, from the chairman to the coaching staff, and from the players to all of those behind the scenes.

"It may be a cliché, but the supporters of the Rebel Army truly are our ‘12th Man’.

The number 12 jersey was officially presented to the Cork City Official Supporters Club this afternoon by Cork City’s director of media & operations Éanna Buckley.

The jersey was accepted by Declan Carey on behalf of the CCOSC.

"I am delighted to accept the number 12 jersey from the club on behalf of the Cork City Official Supporters Club, and all Cork City supporters," said Carey.

"It is a wonderful gesture by the club to recognise the importance of the supporters, and I’m sure that this is something which will be welcomed by every member of the Rebel Army."
