Whelan demands Dowd Inquiry

Wigan chairman Dave Whelan has called for the authorities to investigate the past performances of referee Phil Dowd after Latics boss Paul Jewell criticised the official for costing his side victory at Arsenal.

Dowd is in the spotlight after denying Wigan what appeared to be a late second-half penalty yesterday, which could have put the visitors 2-0 up and seen Mathieu Flamini sent off.
