Whittingham departs the Villains

Cardiff have signed England under-21 winger Peter Whittingham from Aston Villa.

The 22-year-old passed a medical at Ninian Park yesterday and, after agreeing personal terms, has joined for a reported fee of £350,000.

Whittingham admitted he is keen to get started after finding first-team football hard to come by since the arrival of manager Martin O’Neill at Villa Park.

“I’ve played over 50 games in the Premiership and have a bit of experience so hopefully I can bring something to the team,” he said.

"The move only really came about a week or so ago but I was happy to do it, hopefully I can now settle down in a midfield role. Everyone knows what a massive fan base the club has got and the manager sold the club to me."
