Addicks contest Sankofa red card

Charlton have appealed against the red card shown to full-back Osei Sankofa during the Addicks’ 4-0 defeat at Arsenal last night.

The 21-year-old was dismissed for a tug on Gunners striker Robin van Persie in the 29th minute.

However, Charlton believe he should not have been sent off, arguing that Talal El Karkouri was the last man and that Van Persie was in an offside position.

“The decision against us was a triple whammy,” Charlton manager Alan Pardew said.

“One, he should have been given offside, two yards offside by the way.

“Secondly, he didn’t pull him back too hard and the player went down quite dramatically, and then Osei getting sent off as well. That was a big blow for the team.”
