Dundalk have backed down in their dispute with the FAI following their failure to gain a place in the new Eircom League of Ireland Premier Division.

The club's chairman, Gerry Matthews, said yesterday after a meeting with FAI officials that he was satisfied that the selection process, which promoted Galway at the expense of Dundalk, was fair.

Manager John Gill, who was previously unhappy with the work of the Independent Assessment Group says all he wants to do is return to concentrating on football.

“Gerry Matthews is a very shrewd man,” he said.

“He knows what he's doing. I've got to go along with what the board say. I just want to look forward now. I can't change anything that happened. We're now just trying to look forward to next season.”
