Scotland will play Austria in a friendly at the end of this season, the Scottish Football Association has confirmed.

The international will take place on May 30 at the Ernst Happel Stadium in Vienna, the venue of the Euro 2008 final.

As tournament joint hosts with Switzerland, Austria currently have no competitive matches and have planned a full schedule of friendlies.

Scotland manager Walter Smith believes the match will be crucial to preparations for their Euro 2008 qualifier against the Faroe Islands on June 6.

He said: “Several of the players will face a long time without a game before the Faroes game so this match will be an important part of the build-up to the qualifier.”

Scotland were held to a 2-2 draw the last time they played Austria in August 2005.
