Setanta Cup draw pairs Shelbourne and Cork City
The draw for the 2007 Setanta Sports Cup took place at the Coach House, Dublin Castle, this evening, and it has pitted 2005 winners Linfield and FAI Cup and League Cup holders Derry City together in the same group for the second successive year.
Joining them in group one are reigning Setanta Sports Cup champions Drogheda United and current Irish Premier League leaders Glentoran.
Group two sees Cork City and Shelbourne reunited in the group stages after a one-year absence, along with Irish Premier League sides Dungannon Swifts and Portadown.
Drogheda United will open their defence of the trophy at home to Linfield at United Park on Monday, February 26.
The other opening-night fixture in group one sees Glentoran host Derry City at The Oval. Group two opens with Dungannon Swifts at home to Cork City at Stangmore Park, while Tolka Park is the venue for Shelbourne v Portadown.
Speaking at the draw, chief executive of Setanta Sports Ireland Niall Cogley announced that Setanta Sports has extended its sponsorship of the tournament.
The current deal, which started in 2005, is worth €1.6m over four years and the new deal will run from 2009 to 2012, marking another six years of sponsorship of the tournament.
Group 1: Glentoran, Derry City, Drogheda United, Linfield.
Group 2: Dungannon Swifts, Cork City, Shelbourne, Portadown.
