Dimitar Berbatov scored the winner against his former club to send Tottenham into the knockout stages of the UEFA Cup.

The 25-year-old tapped in after 35 minutes in the teeming rain at the BayArena, the stadium where he built his reputation before moving to White Hart Lane for £10.9m (€15.m) in the summer.

The hosts hit the post through Bernd Schneider and Paul Robinson made some important saves as the visitors held on to maintain their 100% record in this season’s competition.
