Mikel starts for Chelsea
Chelsea coach Jose Mourinho recalled troubled teenager Mikel John Obi for their UEFA Champions League clash with Werder Bremen in Germany.
It was the teenager’s first start in Mourinho’s side since he was red-carded against Reading in the Barclays Premiership last month.
Chelsea, requiring just a point to qualify for the next phase as Group A winners, also left Ukraine striker Andriy Shevchenko on the bench.
Bremen striker Aaron Hunt had to be content with a place among the substitutes as coach Thomas Schaaf looked for goals from Germany international Miroslav Klose and Hugo Almeida.
Werder Bremen: Wiese, Naldo, Wome, Mertesacker, Fritz, Diego, Daniel Jensen, Frings, Borowski, Hugo Almeida, Klose.
