Duff faces scan on knee injury

Newcastle midfielder Damien Duff will head to London for a scan on his injured knee as his team-mates prepare for tomorrow’s UEFA Cup clash with Celta Vigo at St James’ Park.

Manager Glenn Roeder will be anxious for news of the Republic of Ireland international’s fitness having already written off defender Craig Moore for a month with a torn hamstring.

Full-backs Stephen Carr (foot), Celestine Babayaro (groin) and Olivier Bernard (hip) have joined Michael Owen (knee) on the casualty list, while Giuseppe Rossi is ineligible, but Emre returns from suspension.

Meanwhile, Shola Ameobi has undergone surgery on his hip injury in America and will miss the rest of the season.
