Derry's win not enough

Mark Farren scored for the third match running to earn Derry a win in boss Stephen Kenny’s last match in charge, but it wasn’t enough as Shelbourne clinched the title.

Derry finish second as they lost out on goal difference, but have the consolation of places in the UEFA Cup and Setanta Cup to look forward to next year as well as next month's FAI Carlsberg Cup final.

Farren gave a packed Brandywell some early cheer with what proved the only goal of the game after 12 minutes.

Played in by Barry Molloy, Farren rounded Mick Devine to tap home his ninth goal of the league season.

Cork were disappointing as they needed to at least match Drogheda’s result against Waterford to be guaranteed a place in Europe.

The deposed champions rarely tested David Forde in the Derry goal throughout the match.
