Davenport dismissal rescinded

Tottenham’s Calum Davenport has had the red card he received in Saturday’s Barclays Premiership match against Aston Villa rescinded by the Football Association.

The defender was sent off in the 73rd minute of the match after fouling Gabriel Agbonlahor as the Villa striker homed in on the Tottenham goal.

Referee Martin Atkinson ruled the offence a professional foul – but Villa’s Juan Pablo Angel let Tottenham off the hook by sending the spot-kick wide of Paul Robinson’s goal. The match finished 1-1.

The FA’s disciplinary commission today confirmed the decision had been overturned, leaving Davenport free to play in his team’s next match, Sunday’s derby against West Ham at White Hart Lane.
