Pearce delighted with Onuoha

Manchester City manager Stuart Pearce is impressed with the progress of full-back Nedum Onuoha as he continues his recovery from a hamstring injury.

The 19-year-old suffered the injury during pre-season but Pearce revealed that a meeting at the English Institute of Sport convinced him that Onuoha was on the right track.

Pearce told the club’s official website www.mcfc.co.uk: “We had a meeting to get some fresh ideas, to see if we are missing anything with him.

“The upshot is that we are not, his injury is coming along very well but because he has had different injuries crop up, we are going to have to take things steadily and look at the way we train him.

“Over the close season he had a few injuries that are not from fatigue. He pulled his calf doing something minor, and then he pulled his hamstring at the very end of a training session.

“He is not far away from full fitness now, so we have our fingers crossed that he comes through and gets a bank of matches behind him. I think he’s a very bright talent for this football club.”
