Derry bounce back with victory over UCD
Derry City 2 UCD 0
Derry put their UEFA Cup disappointment behind them to keep on course for the domestic treble as they cruised into the semi-finals of the FAI Carlsberg Cup.
UCD’s hopes of causing an upset weren’t helped by the loss, after just two minutes, of midfielder Pat McWalter who was taken off on a stretcher with a leg injury.
Derry boss Stephen Kenny made six changes to the side beaten by PSG in Paris last Thursday. But despite running much of the match, Derry needed a 65th minute penalty to break the deadlock.
Killian Brennan was taken down by Derek Doyle and Mark Farren slotted home the spot kick.
Two minutes later Derry doubled their lead when a shot from Brennan came back off a defender and Kevin McHugh drilled the rebound through the legs of College keeper Darren Quigley.
