Cornes leaves Wolves after testing positive for cocaine

Wolves have terminated Chris Cornes' contract by mutual consent in the aftermath of the striker testing positive for cocaine.

The 19-year-old academy graduate was approaching the end of a six-month Football Association ban incurred for providing a positive sample of the prohibited substance in a test at Wanderers' Compton training ground in February.

The club suspended midfielder Cornes when the B sample was confirmed as positive.

However, Wolves stood by him when the six-month ban was handed down by the FA and Cornes continued to train with the squad.

A Wolves spokesman said: "It has now been decided it is in the best interests of both parties the player pursues his career elsewhere."
