Dramatic late winner for Sligo
Sligo Rovers 3 St. Patrick’s Athletic 2
Chris Turner scored a dramatic late penalty winner as Sligo came from 2-0 down to stun St. Pat's at the Shwogrounds.
Goals from Colm Foley and Dave Mulcahy appeared to have St. Pat's in control. But Matt Judge got Rovers back into the match when heading home Bosnian Faz Kudozovic’s cross two minutes into the second half.
The game was end to end thereafter before Darren Mansaram collected Adam Hughes’ quickly taken free-kick to skip across a couple of tackles and blast the ball to the roof of the net to equalise on 87 minutes.
But the drama got better as Foley pulled down Mansaram as he raced through on goal a minute from time.
Midfielder Turner, deputising at left-back for a depleted Rovers, calmly drove the spot kick down the middle as keeper Barry Ryan dived to his right.
Saints lead goal was simplicity itself as skipper Foley arrived unmarked at the back post to head home Keith Fahey’s deep free kick.
Trevor Molloy’s drilled cross ran to Dave Mulcahy who rammed the ball home from 16 yards for their second goal on 43 minutes.
