Staunton handed one-match ban over Stuttgart incident
Steve Staunton has been handed a one-match touchline suspension by UEFA today following his dismissal in Saturday’s Euro 2008 qualifying defeat against Germany.
In his first competitive match in charge, Staunton was banished to the stands of the Gottlieb-Daimler Stadium by referee Luis Medina Cantalejo for constantly protesting about the Spaniard’s decisions.
Following a meeting today of UEFA’s Control and Disciplinary Body in Nyon, Staunton will now be forced to sit in the stands for Ireland's next match, the qualifier against Cyprus in Nicosia on October 7.
